In 2006, April Bloom took over the role of Queen Elizabeth for the California City Renaissance Festival. Preceeded by Susan Buckmaster who played the role for two years, April knew that she had some large shoes to fill; both as a replacement and as the iconic Queen herself. Encouraged by another "Elizabeth", Tara Poole, April embarked on her new journey as this enigmatic and amazing woman.
Armed with tons of research, articles and the like, a new dress and a borrowed crown, April played the role for the first time. Her inspiration came from both Glenda Jackson's and Cate Blanchett's Elizabeths, but ultimately she made the role her own - showing that while the role calls for you to be Hades on wheels sometimes, you can still show the Queen's softer and loving side. That is what made Elizabeth so iconic: her ability to be hard and soft at the same time. April portrays an excellent balance between the two. This year we celebrate our Queen's fifth year on her throne!
